Executive Macroeconomic Working Group Meeting between Government and Development Partners: Moving forward the PM’s Order on Doing Business in Lao PDR

On 29 May 2018, 08.30 AM at Crowne Plaza Hotel Vientiane Capital: Ministry of Planning and Investment organized the Executive Macroeconomic Working Group Consultation Meeting between Government and Development Partners.

With active participation of more than 70 representatives from Government and development partners, including representatives from the private sector, the meeting was chaired by H.E Dr. Khamlien Pholsena, Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, and co-chaired by Mrs. Viengsamay Srithirath, Acting Country Manager, World Bank Lao Office, and Mr. Shunsuke Bando, Senior Country Specialist, Lao Resident Mission Asian Development Bank.

In his opening remark, H.E Dr. Khamlien Pholsena emphasized the importance of supporting policies and measures in further promoting the private sector to grow and improving the business climate by saying  “In solving pending issues, we have several measures which will be a focus of today’s meeting including implementation mechanism and extension of one stop services to cover all sectors and localities in response to improving the business environment that enabling ease of doing business through exercising the Prime Minister’s Order No. 02 /PM on improving regulations and coordination mechanisms for doing business to be more rigid. These will involve ministries and provincial authorities concerned in investment license approval procedures to ensure convenience, quick, transparence, fair and compliance in doing business. Particularly is to aim at solving the issues associate with paperwork such as request registration of enterprises, investment licensing, the electrical installation, construction licensing, the import – export, etc. Therefore, there is a call for development partners to play a role to connect government with investors. The government sincerely would like to work on addressing these issues in Lao PDR with you.”
