Meeting of the Chairs and Co-chairs of Sector Working Groups
Friday, 28 September 2018: Today, the Ministry of Planning and Investment organized a Meeting of the Chairs and Co-chairs of the Sector Working Groups, the key coordination platforms of the Round Table Process for development cooperation.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Dr. Kikeo Chanthaboury, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment and co-chaired by Mme. Kaarina Immonen, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative. Participants included concerned line ministries, development partners, and representatives from private sector, civil society and ASEAN countries. The key objective of the meeting was to update and discuss the preparations for the 2018 Round Table Meeting and to provide an update on the floods and the emergency response.
In opening the meeting, Dr. Kikeo Chanthaboury, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, stated that “the organisation of this year’s Round Table Meeting has been carried out at the same time as our country has been hit by severe flooding. This has put great pressure on our Government to support citizens across the country.” The Deputy Minister encouraged all participants to provide recommendations on focusing the meeting in the context of the mid-term review of the 8th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (NSEDP). The outcomes of the Round Table Meeting will strategically guide the implementation of the development plan during the remaining period, the preparation of the 9th NSEDP and longer-term development vision toward 2030 and beyond.
Linking to this, Mme. Kaarina Immonen, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative reiterated the UN’s strong commitment to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on the Sustainable Development Goals, including the Voluntary National Review, the ongoing Midterm Review of the 8th NSEDP and graduation from Least Developed Country status. Ms. Immonen also assured the Government of the UN’s continued strong support to the flood response, including the ongoing Post-Disaster Needs Assessment, which was recently launched by the Government with joint support of United Nations, World Bank and European Union.
