On Wednesday morning, 7^th June 2017: the National Round Table Process Steering Committee Meeting was organized at the Ministry of Planning and Investment and chaired by H.E Dr. Souphanh Keomixay, Minister of Planning and Investment as a Deputy Chair and Standing Committee Member of the National Steering Committee for the Round Table Process. The meeting was attended by totally 60 participants from concerned line ministries including the ministerial and departmental level officials.

The key objectives of the meeting are to listen to the progress of the implementation of the outcomes of RTIM 2016 and to discuss the proposed roadmap for the RTIM 2017.

Partly in the opening remark, Dr. Souphanh Keomixay, Minister of Planning and Investment, stated that “the Round Table Process is the key national mechanism to enhance the partnership with the development partners. In addition to the resource mobilization for NSEDP implementation, this is also a forum to ensure mutual understanding between the government counterparts and development partners on the national development agenda of the Lao PDR.

Between 24^th and 25^th November 2016, in Vientiane Province, the RTIM 2016 under the theme “Accelerating the implementation of 8^th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (8^th NSEDP 2016-2020) for LDC graduation and achievement of SDGs” was held with successful outcomes. In collaboration with the development partners, we selected 4 out of 14 discussion points from the 12^th HLRTM 2015 including 1) Development Agenda 2030 including SDGs localization and implementation; 2) green growth, climate change and disaster preparedness; 3) food security and nutrition, and 4) partnership for effective development cooperation.

Since that meeting, MPI as the RTP secretariat has conducted a series of consultations and consolidated a number of feedbacks from line ministries, and reported to the Government. Thus, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a Notice No. 149/PMO.Sec, dated 27^th Jan 2017 on the Implementation of the 2016 RTIM Outcomes”.

Furthermore, there was also a presentation on the summary of the progress towards the 2016 RTIM Outcomes implementation and guidance on preparation of the upcoming RTIM 2017, delivered by Ms. Sisomboun Ounavong, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, MPI in light of Notice 149/PMO.Sec, dated 27^th Jan 2017, which raised a lot of interests from the audience.

The meeting was carried out very successfully in a productive environment with constructive comments and discussion, and was closed at noon of the same day.
